Living Lawns Award.Grounds and Landscaping

In designing Society Hill's 75 acres, advantage was taken of existing trees, contours and gentle waterways. Hundreds of additional trees and shrubs were tastefully incorporated into a pleasant environment complementing the nearby parkland. Attractive shrubs and flowers bloom in season. Several natural growth areas provide both visual screening and home for birds and small wildlife.

As seen above, Society Hill's conversion to full organic lawn management has been recognized by receiving Sustainable Lawrence's Living Awards Campaign plaque.

Marc Tolo. With the capable assistance of Landscape Chair Marc Tolo and our landscaping services, the Board pursues a plan of annually trimming, adding, and replacing trees and other vegetation.

A sprinkler system assures adequate moisture when required during dry spells, and regular attention is paid to maintaining our lawn areas.

Residents are encouraged to submit suggestions regarding the grounds to the office for consideration. All work is determined in light of overall priorities and strategies, as directed by the Board of Trustees.

For further on our grounds and their maintenance, read our landscape management program and our recent adoption of a full organic lawn management strategy (includes Consultant Mike McGrath's report to the board).
