Winter Maintenance Projects
While outdoor work slows down in the colder months, the Association typically tackles special tasks, such at these from winter 2007-8.
Pavement Repair. A contractor was engaged to raise a number of sunken or slanted pavement slabs. Rather than incurring the cost of breaking up the old concrete and laying new, this approach involves drilling several holes through the existing pavement.
Then, a mud slurry is injected under pressure, gradually lifting the slab to the desired level. This requires great care to avoid cracking it, and as seen in the top picture, adjacent slabs may have to be separated.
Work has been performed on Society Way, Gordon Avenue, Barberry Court, Sycamore Court, Magnolia Court and Pagoda Court.
Tree removal and pruning. Taking advantage of available funds, additional dead trees are being removed as part of our program to maintain an attractive landscape, and clearing tree canopies around the buildings and roof lines is also being planned for this winter.
Our vibrant pear trees provide beauty for all to enjoy, especially when in bloom. In an effort to preserve the pear trees, a pruning program commenced last winter. Reducing the weight by thinning and raising branch levels decreases the stress on their fragile canopies. The large pear trees were pruned last January and plans for pruning the smaller pear trees are in the works.
The Association is able to secure better rates for completing this work during the winter months.
